Croatia, Japan, Korea, Portugal, Slovenia, and the United Kingdom
Shigeo Shimizu was appointed as Executive Director for Croatia, Japan, Korea, Portugal, Slovenia, and the United Kingdom at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, D.C., in August 2020.
Mr. Shimizu has extensive experience in the public sector. Prior to his appointment, he was Councillor at the Cabinet Secretariat and lead policies and programs on the Japan-US Trade Agreement as well as the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (CPTPP or TPP11).
From 2015 to 2018, Mr. Shimizu served as Minister at the Embassy of Japan in the USA. From 2013 to 2015, he oversaw and managed Japanese defense expenditures at the Ministry of Defense.
From 2011 to 2013, Mr. Shimizu was a director at the Ministry of Finance responsible for policies on multilateral development banks, including the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the World Bank. From 2009 to 2011, he served as Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of the Japanese ODA to East and Southeast Asian countries and Oceanian countries.
Mr. Shimizu holds an LLB from the University of Tokyo and a Master of Public Administration from Cornell University.
