Ralf Schroeder is an economist with a Master and PhD from the Freie Universitaet Berlin. Before joining the IDB, he was in charge of the crisis management instruments (transitional development assistance) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, BMZ, at the intersection of development, humanitarian assistance and peace (HDP-Nexus). The challenge here is – as evidenced by the ongoing pandemic - to address the root causes of fragility and conflict, while building resilience of people and communities, and laying the ground for sustainable solutions, for.example.via adaptive social protection systems.
Ralf Schroeder started his career in development working in Mexico and Cuba, and later with BMZ in Kenya, Ethiopia, and Afghanistan. From 2014 to 2018 he served as the Senior Advisor to the German ED at the World Bank. At the World Bank, he helped to shape the latest capital increase and the German contribution.
During his career he has advocated for an evidence-based approach, supporting innovative approaches and team- as well as institutional-learning.
