Integrated Management Patos Lagoon
The purpose of this technical cooperation is to restore the environmental quality and fisheries productivity of the Rio Grande estuary (Rio Grande do Sul) as a basis for local economic recovery and using an integrated approach to managing this coastal ecosystem. Specific objectives include: (a) establishement of a permanent community-based program for estuarine management; (b) improving estuarine water quality, fisheries habitat and stocks; and (c) providing sustainable income alternatives for artisanal fisheries that depend on the estuary.
