Modernization in the Fishery Sector
The main objectives of the project are to modernize the training available in the fishery sector and strengthen the national capacity to implement a resource management regime for tuna, sharks and other pelagic fisheries. To this end, the project consists of: (i) developing in-firm and participatory training programs in the pelagic long-lining fishery sector and in the handling and processing of fresh fish; (ii) improving the marketable skills and earning capacity of Peruvian long-line fishermen and fresh fish handlers and processors; and (iii) developing the capacity of scientists and technicians to collect and analyze population and catch data for the sustainable management of selected pelagic fisheries.
