Air Transport Safety Initiative

The general objective of this project is to strengthen the institutional and regulatory framework for air transport safety, as a means to improve the economic competitiveness of Central America, Panama, Haiti, Dominican Republic and Belize. As a result, the project will help improve the Region's access to world markets and its attractiveness to private investment in aviation and other key economic sectors, such as tourism. The specific objectives of this project are: (i) strengthen the regional institutional framework for aviation safety and assist in the development of a harmonized regulatory framework for the Region; (ii) develop a regional information system to improve the access to safety information; (iii) modernize the Civil Aviation Authorities (CAA) of the eligible countries to contribute to their compliance with international and national safety standards, as required by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) audits.
