The immediate objectives of the proposed technical cooperation are: (i) to prepare the forestry component of the "Sustainable Development Project of the State of Acre" (BR-0313), which is currently being negotiated between the government and the Bank. (ii) to lend technical support in sustainable forestry management to the institutions of the State of Acre (in particular, the "Secretaria Executiva de Florestas e Extrativismo") and the entire industry. In the long run the development of the forestry sector is expected to create employment, raise per capita income and increase the fiscal revenues of the State.
