Land Privatization, Titling and Indigenous Peoples in Latin America
General objective: Evaluate the impact of recent privatization and individual land titling programs on indigenous communities in Latin America, with particular emphasis on indigenous economies and production systems, and elaborate recommendations to improve Bank land policy, titling and management operations in the region. Specific Objectives: - Assess the pertinence and validity of conventional economic hypotheses regarding land privatization and titling to indigenous communities and people in the region - Assess the impact of individual land privatization schemes (allotments) on access to credit (collateralization, mortgaging and loan scenarios) for indigenous people and communities - Assess the impact of individual land privatization schemes (allotments) on the development of indigenous local land markets (rental and purchase markets) - Assess socio-cultural impacts on indigenous communities and peoples
