AI Mapping of Informal Settlements: Scaling Geospatial Artificial Intelligence for LAC Cities

The general objective of this Technical Cooperation is to strengthen the availability and use of standardized, spatially disaggregated data on informal settlements across LAC cities to inform IDB operational design, monitoring, and Development Effectiveness (DE) reporting. The specific objectives are: (i) to generate standardized geospatial data products on informal settlements for up to ten LAC metropolitan areas using an existing satellite imagery–based Artificial Intelligence methodology (AI Mapping); (ii) to consolidate the LAC-specific training and validation dataset into a documented, reusable resource that improves methodological transferability across urban morphologies; and (iii) to disseminate the methodology, results, and operational use cases through knowledge products, operational guidance notes, and the Cities Lab Digital Cities webinar series.
