Evaluation of Financial instruments for the conservation of the jaguar in the Great American Chaco

The general objective of this technical cooperation is to enable financial instruments for natural capital and ecosystem services regeneration in the Gran Chaco Americano. The specific objectives are: i) to map and identify conservation areas within the Gran Chaco Americano that are important habitats for the jaguar, flagship specie for biodiversity; ii) to leverage resources for conservation and ecosystem regeneration through targeted financial instruments such as habitat banks, green credits and bonds, debt-for-nature swaps, nature funds, and others, iii) strengthen the public capacity to support efficiently the development and operationalization of these financial instruments. The overarching goal is to mitigate risks and concurrently create favorable conditions for investors, companies, and government authorities. This collaborative effort is designed to assist them in meeting their environmental and biodiversity targets (NDCs and NBSAPs), encompassing conservation goals, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction, and various other environmental objectives, including alignment to Global Biodiversity Framework in the Kunming-Montreal Agreement.
