Development of climate-resilient regional value chains that strengthen water ecosystem services and generate rural income in the trinational basin of the Lempa River in Trifinio
The water ecosystem services that are generated in the upper and middle basin of the Lempa River in the Trifinio are decisive for the development and well-being of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. The quality of life of rural inhabitants is in turn closely related to the revitalization of sustainable value chains by integrating innovative production systems adapted to climate change that improve rural income and strengthen the provision of said services, which demands the incorporation of integrated water resource management practices, protecting areas of high water value and reducing the respective environmental footprint. Consequently, these water ecosystem services constitute a regional public good that generates environmental, social and economic benefits.
