Support for the Gender and Security Agenda -Intergenerational Violence
The COVID-19 pandemic stunned the world in the early months of 2020, causing a global crisis unprecedented in recent history. In response to this pandemic, the governments of the region (and the world) have decreed preventive isolation and / or quarantine measures to flatten the contagion curve. The pandemic has also generated an increase in stress and economic uncertainty for people. These factors significantly increase the risk of women, girls, boys and adolescents of suffering abuse, physical, sexual and / or emotional assaults at home. To date, different media have reported an increase in complaints of domestic violence during periods of isolation by COVID-19 (in the United States, Colombia, Paraguay, among other countries). This TC aims to diagnose the situation of violence against children and adolescents in LAC and to support countries in mapping policies, institutions and good practices to prevent, reduce and respond to violence against children, and prevent the exploitation of boys and girls. The TC will generate information and evidence to strengthen the effectiveness of public policies and identify priorities and possible lines of action on the agenda and the operational program for citizen security and justice. Identifying these good practices can be a key input to get through the pandemic and also to overcome the crisis, in which, due to the financial repercussions, there will surely be fewer resources for victim response and assistance programs.
