Support for the Optimal Sanitation Initiative

The objective of this TC is to contribute to the design and implementation of the Optimal Sanitation Initiative, promoting a joint reflection with the countries to adopt a new paradigm for sanitation, in which the individual and his health are the axis of the definition of actions, through the development of mechanisms that favor the allocation of more resources for the sector, proposals for action based on analysis and evidence, development of new tools and methodologies, policy transformation, coordination of actors and strengthening of institutions , and planning and formulation of efficient and sustainable projects. At the V LATINOSAN 2019 Conference in Costa Rica, the Bank presented a proposal to the countries to participate and be involved in the Optimal Sanitation initiative. The objective pursued by this initiative is to establish alliances and join efforts to achieve the sanitation goals of SDG 6, which requires: (i) directing more resources to the sector and be more efficient in their use; (ii) build and apply coherent policies; (iii) plan rationally; and (iv) share the same vision for the solution of problems with decision makers, sector actors and citizens.
