RG-T3474 : Gender Equality As An Engine Of Economic Growth
Project Status: Implementation
The objective of this Technical Cooperation (TC) is to develop a research and public policy agenda that encourages the elimination of barriers and disincentives for female labor force participation in Central America, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti (CID), which would result in a greater and more inclusive economic growth. The TC will study and propose incentives and solutions to this problem in three relevant areas: i) labor market, ii) education and technical training, and iii) family and social environment. Gender equality is considered a social objective in most CID countries, but the degree of priority has varied from country to country. This TC seeks to promote this agenda and provide evidence to policymakers that empowering women is not only morally correct, but it also makes economic sense. The goal is, on the one hand, to contribute to the literature on the impact of reducing gender gaps on economic growth and, on the other hand, to propose a cross-cutting policy agenda aimed at eliminating the obstacles that marginalize women from the economic system and perpetuate the economic gender gap with the objective of promoting inclusive growth.
