CANEF - Promoting Sustainable Practices in the Mining and Forestry Sectors
The objective of this operation is to support the results-based approach in forestry strategies in LAC to enhance the impact of REDD+ policies, with a specific focus on promoting environmental sustainability in the extractive industries sector (oil, gas and mining industry). the technical cooperation will seek to identify sustainable extractive practices in synergy with existing initiatives which are tackling deforestation issues. The main goals will be: (i) a region-wide assessment of extractive industry practices and related governance frameworks for REDD+; (ii) the design of pilot activities to promote the adoption of sustainable practices in the extractive industries sector of Colombia, Peru and Guyana given ongoing efforts to consolidate forestry strategies (REDD+) (iii) regional knowledge dissemination so as to engage the private sector.
