The Canadian Facility for the Extractives Sector (CANEF) supports the promotion of innovative and sustainable solutions for challenges in the extractives sector in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) that contribute to social, environmental and economic sustainability. In that sense, the objective of this project is to support the regulation, monitoring, and technology development of the hydrocarbon industry in the region in the context of the CANEF mission and vision of innovation and sustainability. The specific objectives of this project are (1) to support the capacity of regulatory agencies and institutions of hydrocarbon extraction; (2) identify and recommend available technologies that enhance resource extraction considering environmental vulnerabilities; (3) identify innovative financial and operational mechanisms that reduce the environmental impact of hydrocarbon extraction; and (4) monitor the regional hydrocarbon market in terms of economics, technology, regulatory practices, and environmental aspects of exploration, transportation, commercialization and consumption.
