RG-T2595 : Responses to the Low Quality and Relevance of Secondary Education

This TC has two main objectives: 1. Identify and analyze successful models of Secondary Education, particularly those from OECD countries which achieve outstanding results in terms of quality and equity of student learning and high transition rates to higher education and employment of its graduates. 2. Identify and characterize best practices in effective secondary schools, namely those which achieve high learning outcomes (controling for the socioeconomic level of its students) and high graduation rates. Analyze their characteristics (in terms of curricula, target population, student seleccion, teacher selection and development, pedagogy, monitoring and evaluation of student competencies, principales and school leadership, counseling and career orientation of students, links to the local comunity and employers). To analyze best practices and derive lessons and policy implications for programs aimed at improving secondary school results, both in terms of student learning/competencies as well as in terms of graduation rates and successful transition of graduates to higher education or the labor market.
