RG-T1861 : Policies and Institutions for Productivity in LAC

The general objective of this TC is to enhance the capacity of LAC governments and other stakeholders of Bank operations to design, implement and evaluate public policies and institutions for productivity growth. More specifically, this proposal has the following specific objectives: i) To develop and implement new tools to assess the degree to which firms in LAC make use of productivity-enhancing policy instruments; ii) To assess the potential benefits of combining and/or coordinating different types of policy instruments (e.g., innovation and commercial policies); iii) To further understand how different policy instruments work and how they impact firms' intermediate outcomes (e.g., sales) as well as productivity; iv) To produce new knowledge about the institutional arrangements used in LAC to deliver productivity-enhancing public policies and provide tools for improving institutional coordination and public-private collaboration; v) To develop new and more comprehensive data and information on firms' use of different policy instruments and on the results of specific types of programs and services aimed at fostering productivity growth at the firm level; vi) To disseminate our findings among the Bank's borrowing member countries through specific training and capacity building activities.
