RG-T1746 : Regional Initiative for Strengthening Procurement Financial Management Systems

Project Status: Closed

The general objective of the project is to improve public sector management, efficient allocation and use of financial resources, and effective public service delivery in the countries in the region. By mainstreaming the build up and use of country systems, the Bank will support a country¿s ownership of its own development agenda and will facilitate the alignment of Bank programs with countries¿ priorities, leading to better and more sustainable results. Specific objectives include: 1. Enable the countries to conduct self-assessments of their procurement and financial management systems in order to determine strengths and weaknesses and provide them with a road map that will guide them in identifying and implementing reforms. 2. Facilitate the country¿s monitoring of the performance of their systems and the success of reform initiatives. 3. Ensure that reforms in the area of procurement and financial management in the region are based on the same body of evidence being used by other donors and partners, thereby supporting a harmonized approach. 4. Reduce transaction costs by having one set of studies that are acceptable to the different donors and partners operating in the countries, thereby reducing the incidence of multiple studies and conflicting recommendations.
