Governance and Food Security in the Alto Putumayo Border Integration Zone (Peru – Colombia)

The objective of this IGR is to strengthen the cocoa value chain, improve food security, and enhance governance in the Border Integration Zone between Colombia and Peru. To achieve this, the TC will promote the development of sustainable agroforestry systems and productive diversification using Amazonian crop varieties that contribute to the food security of local and Indigenous communities. The specific objectives of the project are: (i) To develop climate-resilient cocoa agroforestry systems and recover traditional agroecological practices to diversify production with commercially valuable crops, fostering greater sustainability and competitiveness in the region; (ii) To strengthen food security through the establishment of family gardens and traditional chagras/chacras with a gender-sensitive approach, promoting the empowerment of women in agricultural production and improving access to healthy food; (iii) To consolidate territorial governance and binational coordination by strengthening community organizations and promoting local development models that ensure the sustainability of interventions in the Border Integration Zone between Colombia and Peru.
