Competitive Transition of Agriculture and Rural Economy

The IDB country strategy paper for Panama notes the importance of competitiveness for economic growth and poverty reduction. While trade liberalization presents a number of opportunities, it will require countries to take appropriate adjustments in policy. The Regional Operations Department II is developing a strategy to provide support to the region in making a competitive transition of agriculture and the rural economy to take full advantage of the opportunities presented by further trade liberalization and to mitigate the negative impact on the rural poor. Annex II details how this effort fits within Panama's country strategy paper.
