ME-M1101 : Compensation Mechanism for Carbon Capture in Soil by Farmers
Project Status: Closed
Desertification is the result of an unsustainable use of land and is exacerbated by climate variations. It limits land productivity and its ability to provide Environmental services.
The Project addresses this problem by building capacity in smallholder farmers in the Sierra Gorda, so that they can implement a holistic management in their agricultural and livestock activities. This will allow them to recover soil fertility and improve productivity while creating biodiversity refuges, water reservoirs and carbon sinks.
The Project also aims to value the Environmental services that will be generated or enhanced through the orientation of public policies towards the development and strengthening of a compensation mechanism at a State level.
