The objectives of the study are to: 1- Assess the child development status of a cohort of children at entry to early childhood centres between 36 ¿ 39 months of age 2- Assess the quality of the early childhood development (ECD) environment that children experience between 3 and 5 years 3- Assess teacher quality in early childhood centres for children 3-5 years, with specific emphasis on teacher-child interactions 4- Assess the impact of the ECD environment prior to pre-school entry and the ECD pre-school environment on child development status and school readiness on entry to the primary level 5- Assess the impact of the most recent policy initiative of the Jamaican Ministry of Education, of creating new infant departments in primary schools 6- Provide policy recommendations on improving ECD quality to governments of the LAC region, based on the analyses above
