Private Investments Incentive Mechanism for Rural Solar Energy in Honduras
The overarching objective of this project is to contribute to deliver access to modern energy for lighting and productive activities to isolated off-grid communities of Honduras. The project looks to demonstrate that lower cost, more efficient and innovative designs for solar rural electrification can deliver an adequate level of "access to energy" to the poorest remote villages of Honduras, where an expansion of the electrical grid is not foreseen in the near future. The project has an additional objective in demonstrating that solar energy can cost-effectively power agro-processing mills, thus reducing manual labor, which is typically performed by women.
