HO-L1110 : Smartsolar Commercial Scale PV Development

Project Status: Implementation

The objectives of the project are to install renewable energy system in the Honduran industrial sector, under an innovative financial structure that is scalable. The main barriers to commercial scale PV projects is that the individual projects are too small to be financed on a standalone basis and commercial debt finance is available for companies to make investments that are outside of their core business, such as renewable energy. However, by creating a portfolio of projects the IDB can offer the debt financing required by this industry that currently does not exist. The overall goal is to help the end user to mitigate climate change while reducing operating costs and increasing competitiveness; and doing all of this under a scalable and replicable financial structure.
