End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) Recycling

The objective of the project is to reduce the waste materials that are emitted into the environment as a result of the increasing the capacity to effectively and safely manage ELVs in Guyana. This initiative specifically targets vehicle owners, dismantling facilities, and recycling operators, while prioritizing the protection of vulnerable populations residing near landfills who are most exposed to environmental hazards. By promoting proper collection, treatment, and recycling of ELV components, the project aims to minimize hazardous waste, prevent soil and water contamination, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for surrounding communities. By prioritizing the safe removal and processing of hazardous components—such as batteries, fluids, and electronic waste—the Cevons End of Life of Vehicles Project actively minimizes the generation of hazardous waste and prevents dangerous substances from leaching into soil and water.
