PDF-A Conservation and Management of Sharks
The project will develop a coordination mechanism between the Subseretary for Fisheries Resources (Ministry of Trade, Industrilisation, Fisheries and Competitiveness) and The Subsecretary for Natural Capital (Ministry of Environment). It will also establish an intersectorial working group that includes decision makers and managers, fishermen and NGOs representatives, is established to steer and drive the development and implementation of the NPOA-Sharks. This group will be established through an inter-ministerial agreement and will have clear terms of references and coordination mechanisms.

The Project will also identify gaps in the knowledge about biological, landing and trade of sharks that are priority for decision making on management measures and actions to overcome them. The first step needed is to compile and analyse this information, together with the management framework for shark conservation and management and identify gaps and loopholes both on the technical and legal side.

Third, the project will produce a GEF medium size project proposal that aims at (a) generating critical information needed for management decisions on shark fisheries and (b) further developing and implement the Ecuadorian NPOA-Sharks.
