Improving Access to Productive Financing for Small-Scale Farmers at the BOP
The project is consistent with the Opportunities for the Majority (OMJ) objectives, inasmuch as it: (i) facilitates access to finance among small-scale farmers at the base of the pyramid that would otherwise be infeasible given their lack of credit history and/or sufficient collateral; (ii) promotes a business model that makes use of a supply platform as an alternative channel to reach low-income markets; (iii) promotes a sustainable, win-win business strategy, under which additional benefits accrue to the company from the economic development and socioeconomic inclusion of small-scale farmers at the base of the pyramid with limited opportunities to access finance, effective technologies, and buyers for their produce; and (iv) has a high potential to be replicated and scaled up in other countries of the region.
