Adding value in the timber forestry value chain to reduce deforestation in the Department of Guaviare, Colombia

The purpose of this operation is to reduce deforestation and forest degradation in Guaviare by establishing a viable, locally driven forest-based economic model based on timber, which assigns real economic value to standing forests. By strengthening Sustainable Forest Management through empowered local organizations, improved market access, increased value-added processing, and demand-oriented value chains, the proposal aims to shift control and benefits from intermediaries to local communities. In doing so, it seeks to integrate forests into regional development planning as a competitive and sustainable economic asset, enhancing livelihoods, reinforcing governance, and positioning the forest economy as a cornerstone of Guaviare's long-term territorial competitiveness and development.
