CO-L1111 : Support National Road Safety Policy

Road safety has been declared a State policy in Colombia. The present government¿s National Development Plan includes road safety as one of its principal strategies, and the Congress of the Republic has established it as a priority in its work program. In this context, development of an institutional framework for road safety management is one of the priority actions of the National Road Safety Plan. The purpose of this operation is to consolidate the institutional strengthening process and further contribute to the execution of the priority actions on Colombia¿s road safety management agenda. The main objective of the program is to support the Colombian government in the consolidation of the national road safety policy, the ultimate goal of which will be to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries caused by traffic accidents, through: (i) institutional strengthening for the implementation and dissemination of the PNSV; (ii) consolidation of the National Road Safety Observatory; and (iii) support for the formulation of local and regional road safety plans.
