Water And Sanitation Supply Models for Dispersed Rural Areas in Guajira

The objective of this pilot program is to design and implement models for the provision of individual solutions for the supply of water and sanitation in dispersed rural or nucleated rural areas of smaller size (less than 2,000 inhabitants), which will include the use of different technological alternatives , in La Guajira in Colombia. This project will generate recommendations and inputs for the implementation of the Guajira Azul Program that the Government has been executing in the department of La Guajira. It will be oriented to the rural sector of the population of the Department. Likewise, this pilot will be in close coordination with the intervention model for rural Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) developed by the Bank, which proposes adequate sanitation solutions adapted to the demands and needs of the population, to ensure its use and sustainability in the region. The strategic objectives of the program are: (i) Define models for the sustainable provision of water and sanitation in small rural communities in the department of La Guajira, which must respond to the social, environmental, economic, geographical and supply conditions of the water in this region; (ii) Pilot implementation of one of the models identified in the communities of the Uribia (Alta Guajira) municipality of Petpana, Juleramana, Parrusamana, Kalaripa, Alapu, Paraamana, Karraisira, Irrualain, Esperanza, Alapalishi, Panerrakat, Wayatnou, Sarentua, Panterramana, Zucaramana and Jepina, and; (iii) Support the processes of sectoral institutional strengthening from the generation of spaces for departmental articulation between territorial entities, donors, cooperators, companies and other institutions that carry out interventions in the water and sanitation sector in the department of La Guajira.
