CH-T1121 : Fostering Environmental Accountability in Chilean Congress

The objective of this KCP is to foster accountability on the environment in the Chilean Congress by: (1) Providing information to empower citizens to effectively hold Congress member accountable for their votes, amendments, and other actions regarding environmental legislation, and (2) Educating the public on the relevance of parliamentary work in the environmental realm through innovative mechanisms such as the proposed web platform. Once this KCP Project is over, the expected results are the following: 1. The implementation and consolidation of a valuable source of information regarding environmental work in Congress, including a unique and nationwide recognized database of environmental legislation that will be shared with the Ministry of the Environment and the Library of Congress (Biblioteca Congreso Nacional) 2. A web-based platform that will provide all the relevant information necessary to effectively empower civil society to proactively engage in making Congressional representatives accountable for their actions on environmental issues. These results will contribute to prevent and control corruption in Congress as well as create new avenues of communication and understanding between civil society and Congress.
