CH-T1095 : Design and Financing of Desalination Plants in Northern Chile
Project Status: Closed
The objective of the Project is to secure alternative sources of water through desalination plants in order to conserve and protect scarce water resources in Chile. The goal of the Project is to identify viable institutional frameworks and business model suitable for Arica and Copiapó in Chile The Northern Chile has been known as one of the most arid region of the world. Scarcity of water resources has been a direct result of the prevailing climate and soil conditions in regions such as Arica & Parinacota and Atacama. Further, water use in agriculture and various industries have led to the overexploitation of existing surface and underground water resources. The lack of consistent and quality water has become an impediment to economic growth for the Arica & Parinacota and Atacama regions in Chile. To address this challenge, desalination plants have proposed as a possible solution. However, the institutional framework and the business plan for viable plants suitable for the two regions in Chile have not been developed. The proposed TC will assist in the development of desalination plants in the Arica & Parinacota and Atacama regions.
