Impact of improving the quality of hospital networks in the Municipality of São Paulo

This study will examine the impact of activities conducted under BR-L1630 on the performance of the Municipality of São Paulo's (MSP) health system and hospitals (N=12).

The proposal is to apply synthetic control and difference-in-difference methods to a combination of administrative and survey data to examine three questions: (i) What is the impact on the access and utilization of health care services (including primary and hospital care) in the catchment areas of the project hospitals?; (ii) What is the impact on hospital performance? (iii) What is the impact on the performance of primary health care (which is not directly targeted by the operation)?
Therefore, the study will examine overall impacts and heterogeneity across geographic areas and populations and will consider as outcomes, for instance, measures that can inform us of the broader impact of the operation on the health system (such as patient experience).
