Innovative urban integration approaches for poverty reduction

The general objective of this technical cooperation (TC) is to strengthen poverty reduction and social inclusion components in housing and urban development plans and operations. The TC has three specific objectives. First, to identify innovative arrangements and experiences to overcome traditional bottlenecks to the integration of poverty reduction and social inclusion components in urban development projects. Second, to find replicable and scalable ways to address information gaps in favelas, mainly in economic and social indicators. Third, to build the capacity of housing and urban development departments to effectively integrate poverty reduction and social inclusion components. While these objectives are broadly relevant to Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), this TC is specifically designed to support the State of São Paulo in its poverty reduction initiatives. It will develop innovative urban integration approaches for poverty alleviation within the 'Baixada Santista-São Paulo-Campinas' corridor, clearly outlining opportunities for IDB engagement and support.
