Program to Expand MERCOSUR Corridor: Florianópolis-Osório Highway
The final objective of the Program is to promote the economic development of the southern region of Brazil and to facilitate economic integration with other MERCOSUR member countries. The specific objective of the Program is to provide Florianopolis-Osorio highway users more cost effective and safer road services, reducing transportation costs, improving road safety and improving accessibility to neighboring countries. Presently, the geometric characteristics of the highway impose severe restrictions to the road corridors capacity resulting in very low levels of service given existing demand. The proposed project will provide a significant increase in road capacity. In addition, the installation of weigh stations will reduce future maintenance cots and the institutional strengthening of DINIT will provide better road network management.
