Program for Strengthening the Social Protection System in Bolivia I

The overall objective of the first operation is to mitigate the negative effects caused by structural adjustments—such as the removal of energy subsidies—on the country's poorest households, and to create a social registry that enables the efficient management of State resources aimed at poverty alleviation and the promotion of human capital in the poorest households. The specific objectives are:(i) To protect the purchasing power of the most vulnerable households against income shocks by ensuring continued coverage of the Bolivia's targeted monetary transfers; and(ii) To strengthen the targeting mechanisms of the social protection system.
