Workshop on Doing Business with the IDB

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will host a procurement workshop in Barbados on Tuesday, October 22 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

Entitled “Doing Business with the IDB”, the workshop will explain the requisite steps for the submission of bids and proposals on IDB-funded projects, dispel bidding myths, and bring clarity to the process of applying, preparing, and submitting bids and proposals based on published procurement plans.

The half-day event starts with a sign-in and coffee at 8:30 a.m. on October 22. The workshop will address the following topics, among others:

  • How the IDB Procurement Process Works;
  • Pitfalls in the Procurement Process;
  • Award Disclosure;
  • Notification of Status of Submission;
  • Protest Mechanisms and Prohibited Practices; and
  • Possibilities for Joint Ventures.

Roy Parahoo serves as an IDB senior specialist on procurement matters and will be the workshop’s facilitator. Mr. Parahoo emphasizes that the workshop is intended to expand the pool of individuals and companies who currently bid on IDB-funded projects: “We would like to share this information, so that we can attract a wider range of service providers and thus provide more people with higher quality employment opportunities.”

The IDB finances approximately 20,000 contracting opportunities each year; the IDB’s procurement website has current and comprehensive information available at our website. Deadline for registration is Monday, October 21, at 5:00 p.m.
