The international community and the Government of Costa Rica to host event on September 27–29
The Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum (LACF), the leading carbon finance conference and trade fair in the region, will take place in San José, Costa Rica on September 27–29, 2011, building on growing interest and expectations regarding the future status of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and new carbon finance schemes.
This is a crucial time for the global carbon markets. There is uncertainty as to the carbon market architecture post-2012; an increasing fragmentation of the market, and an abundance of emerging mechanisms and sources of climate finance.
The Forum is co-organized the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Telecommunications of Costa Rica, the World Bank Institute (WBI), the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), the UNEP Risø Centre and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The LACF allows government representatives, private sector, financial market and opinion-makers involved in the carbon markets at national, regional and global levels to share knowledge, discuss new trends, propose solutions, and identify business opportunities. This is an important moment to promote this discussion with new impetuses for increasing the volume of low carbon investments in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This year the LACF returns to Central America after last years’ successful event in the Dominican Republic. More than 600 local, regional and international participants from private, public and the financial sectors are expected to attend.
