Report on Economic and Social Progress in Latin America to be presented at Inter-American Development Bank on May 4

The Inter-American Development Bank President Enrique V. Iglesias and IDB Chief Economist Ricardo Hausmann will present the latest report on Economic and Social Progress in Latin America at a news conference at noon, May 4, at IDB headquarters in Washington, D.C.

A press luncheon will be held immediately after the presentation.

The report stresses the importance of demography, geography, and institutions in examining the question of why Latin America and the Caribbean has lagged behind other regions of the world in economic and social development. By recognizing the importance of these three variables and understanding their implications, policy-makers will be better equipped to take steps to meet the challenges of the 21st Century, according to the report.

The news conference will take place in the Andrés Bello Auditorium on the 9th floor of Bank headquarters, 1300 New York Avenue, N.W.
