The President of Peru, Alejandro Toledo, invited by president Enrique V. Iglesias, attended a working lunch with IDB executives at the Bank's headquarters in Washington, D.C. The meeting agenda included social issues and the Bank's portfolio for Peru.
President Toledo visited the U.S. capital on a five-day tour for a series of meetings, including visits to the main international financial institutions such as the IDB, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
Prior to his visit to the IDB during his first day in Washington, President Toledo promoted bonds between the Peruvian government and the George Washington University at that institution, and was the keynote speaker at the inauguration of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian.
Later this week, President Toledo will attend a special meeting of the Organization of American States (OAS) on the occasion of the assumption of office by Secretary General Miguel Angel Rodríguez, to be held Thursday at OAS headquarters in Washington.
