Nassau holds Caribbean Microfinance Forum November 13-16

MIF-sponsored event brings international experts to discuss challenges, best practices for microfinance in the Caribbean

The Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, invites the media to attend the 3rd Caribbean Microfinance Forum in Nassau. This event will foster discussion on key issues in microfinance and bring international best practices from the U.S. and the Pacific that will ultimately benefit microenterprise development in the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

The opening ceremony will take place at a cocktail reception on Sunday, November 13. Several officials from the MIF, and from co-financing partners, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the European Commission (EC) will attend, and will be available to speak with the media about efforts to develop the microfinance sector in the Caribbean.

This Forum is an annual event held under the auspices of the Caribbean Microfinance Capacity-building project, a $3 millon regional microfinance initiative supported by the MIF, the CDB and the EC. The conference will include panels on financial education, an interesting discussion on the needs of clients from microfinance institutions, and a workshop on how to develop new products for new client segments. The meeting will also discuss the findings of the first ever study on financial regulation of the microfinance sector in the Caribbean.

Media interested in covering the event must register by sending an email to both Maureen Webber maureen.webber@developmentoptionsjm.com and Philisha Lewis philisha.lewis@developmentoptionsjm.com.
