Message of IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno on International Women’s Day

I would like to celebrate this 8th of March with the women of all the member countries of the Inter-American Development Bank. Their advances and achievements in all realms of society have been many, which should fill us with pride and optimism.

Yet much remains to be done. This year’s theme, Women and men united to end violence against women and girls, must bring more energy to the challenge of reaching this goal. It is a concern that deserves not only public attention but also legislation, vigilance and financing. Through dialogue with the countries in the region, the Bank has played an important role in this trend by showing how urgent it is to take action in this area.

On International Women’s Day, the IDB renews its commitment to continue working on this issue, which is our responsibility as individuals and as a society, and which demands equal participation by men and women.

I wish to send my special greetings to the women of the Inter-American Development Bank, and to congratulate them for their invaluable dedication to the IDB’s mission in the region.

Luis Alberto Moreno
