MILAN, Italy – Representatives of Italy, the Inter-American Development Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Development today signed a memorandum of understanding pledging to cooperate to reduce rural poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean.
To achieve this goal, the three parties agreed to work together in designing a partnership agreement to finance joint rural development technical assistance activities, promoting innovative public and private policies, improving institutional and regulatory frameworks, and strengthening microenterprises and small agricultural producers.
Possible assistance to be offered will be in areas such as land management and legalization of property titles, regional technology development, small rural infrastructure, basic social services, management of natural resources and support for rural ethnic communities.
The agreement was signed as part of the activities during the IDB Annual Meeting in Milan by Bank President Enrique V. Iglesias; Lennart Bage, president of the International Fund for Agricultural Development; and Mario Baccini, undersecretary of state for Latin America of the Italian Foreign Ministry.
