The Inter-American Development Bank will celebrate the 40th. Anniversary of the creation of the Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (INTAL) with a seminar that will take place in Buenos Aires Aug. 24 with the participation of distinguished personalities and experts in development and integration of the region.
The seminar titled “Perspectives of Integration in Latin America and the Caribbean at the Beginning of the XXI Century” will be inaugurated by Argentina’s Finance Minister Roberto Lavagna and will be closed by Foreign Relations Minister Rafael Bielsa.
Participants will include IDB President Enrique V. Iglesias and distinguished academics and authorities of the regional integration systems.
Other important participants will be the Secretary General of the Andean Community Allan Wagner, the President of the Commission of Permanent Representatives of the Southern Cone Common Market (MERCOSUR) Eduardo Duhalde, the Secretary General of the Central American Economic Integration Secretariat Haroldo Rodas Melgar and the Secretary General of the Latin American Integration Association Didier Operti, among other personalities.
Economic Comission for Latin America and the Caribbean Executive Secretary José Luis Machinea and the Deputy Secretary for Internacional Comercial Negotiations of Mexico Ángel Villalobos Rodríguez will also be among the speakers.
The seminar will promote strengthening the integration process of Latin America and the Caribbean and its participation in the global economy, and will share the experiences of Europe and Asia.
INTAL was created in 1965 to promote regional integration, one of the objectives of the IDB action since its creation, and it forms part of the IDB’s Integration and Regional Programs Department. The institute offers training to policy-makers in trade and integration and helps improve institutional capacity of countries in the region in these areas. It also supports research networks and the dissemination of ideas and information.
The seminar will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel, Posadas 1086, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
