The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has launched the report IDBeconomics: A Panorama of Opportunities in the Dominican Republic, which identifies three key pillars for the country's development and offers recommendations based on international best practices. Through comparative analysis, the IDB identifies ten areas of opportunity that the country could leverage to accelerate inclusive and sustainable development and adapt to the demands of an ever-changing global economy.

The first pillar tackles human capital challenges through a set of actions for well-being. These actions focus on quality education, job skills, health, social protection, and greater gender equality and diversity. People are the Dominican Republic's principal and most important resource, so they need the basic tools and conditions that will allow their talent to thrive. A productive and prosperous society is built on opportunities at all stages of people’s life cycle, with good health and quality of life.

The second pillar – public-private engagement, – revolves around collaboration between these two sectors for economic and social progress and well-being. Current obstacles to this collaboration include a lack of climate change resilient infrastructure to ensure quality access to basic services like water, sanitation, transportation, and energy, as well as weak financial and business innovation to make the economy more competitive and diverse.

Modernizing strategic sectors, which is the third pillar in the report, involves injecting momentum into productive sectors that are already economic mainstays but need to be reinvigorated, such as agriculture, sustainable tourism and logistics. These sectors have proven resilient but must be integrated into global value chains through cross-cutting initiatives.

The unique value of IDBeconomics lies in its analytical methodology and commitment to practical and feasible solutions, which make it a useful tool for decision-makers, academics and students. It offers strategic guidance for development policies in critical areas for the country.

The launch of IDBeconomics reaffirms the IDB's commitment to the country as a strategic partner on its path to inclusive and sustainable development. The report is available for download free of charge to anyone seeking a better understanding of the Dominican economic and social landscape.
