WASHINGTON – The Board of Executive Directors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved a $15 million loan to strengthen the conditions needed to mobilize private capital for logistics infrastructure and technologies, boosting the country’s productivity, competitiveness, and export performance.
The financing will support the “Program to Improve Colombia’s Logistics Efficiency,” which will be implemented by the National Planning Department. The program will contribute to enhance the logistics system through technical assistance for the development of bankable logistics projects, support for pilot initiatives to promote the adoption of new technologies, and the launch of a national workforce training program focused on Logistics 4.0 skills in demand across the sector.
The initiative aims to reduce barriers that limit investment in logistics infrastructure and technologies, improve coordination among public and private stakeholders, and generate evidence to accelerate the modernization and digitalization of supply chains.
The program is expected to directly benefit local governments, companies involved in international trade, and approximately 700 individuals who will receive training and certification in logistics management.
The program is aligned with the IDB Group’s strategy in Colombia and with the country’s efforts to strengthen its integration into global value chains and advance the digital transformation of its logistics system.
The IDB financing will be disbursed over a four-year period and will have a 25-year amortization term and a 5.5-year grace period.
