IDB to speed up disbursements of $1 billion to support priority social programs in Argentina

In light of Argentina’s difficult political, economic and social situation, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Argentine government are working to accelerate disbursements of $1 billion from existing loans and reassign resources to priority social programs.

The IDB expects available resources to be invested in programs that can guarantee high levels of effectiveness and impact in improving the living standards of Argentina’s most vulnerable social sectors. Among other actions, the following may be strengthened: (1) the expansion of the distribution of subsidies for unemployed women heads of household, (2) the awarding of more education grants for at-risk youths, (3) the improvement of living conditions in poor neighborhoods, and (4) the distribution of indispensable basic medicines.
