IDB President Moreno to visit Haiti, May 14-15

Inter-American Development Bank President Luis Alberto Moreno will visit Port-au-Prince May 14-15 to hold talks with Haitian authorities about the IDB’s long-term support for Haiti’s reconstruction.

The IDB is the leading source of multilateral assistance for Haiti. Its Board of Governors recently agreed to cancel Haiti’s pending debt and to provide more than $2 billion in grants to the country over the coming decade.

During Moreno’s visit there will be two media opportunities: at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 14, he will visit the Marie Esther School on Rue Turgeau, one of the 50 sites where temporary schools are being built using an IDB grant.

On Saturday morning Moreno will meet President René Préval on the grounds of the National Palace to talk about the key sectors where the Haitian government expects the IDB to focus its work in the coming years, including roads, water, agriculture, education and private sector investments. Moreno will offer a brief press conference after the meeting, at 9:30 a.m.
