The Inter-American Development Bank Group and Chile will hold the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IDB Invest) in the country next year.
IDB President Ilan Goldfajn and Chilean Minister of Finance Mario Marcel signed a memorandum of understanding today to confirm the plan. Once signed, the memorandum was presented to Chilean President Gabriel Boric.
Chile will host the Meetings in March 2025 in the capital, Santiago de Chile, while thematic activities for regional authorities and local and international investors will be carried out in Punta Arenas.
The Boards of Governors are the highest authority of the IDB and IDB Invest. Most of the governors are finance ministers, economy ministers, or presidents of central banks of their countries.
The Annual Meetings are held every year in an IDB member country. They were last held in Chile in 2001. During the event, economic and financial leaders from the 48 member countries will discuss the challenges and opportunities for development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Between 4,000 and 5,000 people participate in the Annual Meetings, including about 2,000 people who come from abroad, boosting the economic and tourist activity of the host country.
“We are very happy to celebrate the most important meetings of the IDB Group in Chile. At the IDB, we are committed to the development of this country, with which we have a long history of close collaboration. The Meetings will represent a window for Chile to the world to demonstrate its leadership, including in climate transformation," said President Goldfajn.
“We just had a meeting with President Boric, the main focus of which was the hosting of the next Annual Meetings of the IDB and IDB Invest governors in Chile. This will be a great opportunity to connect with the challenges of Latin America and the economic development opportunities that Chile has. The last time our Annual Meetings were held in Chile was in 2001, and this time, we are innovating by moving some seminars to Punta Arenas,” commented Finance Minister Marcel.
