IDB approves US$25 million for strengthening the National Institute of Statistics in Venezuela

The Inter-American Development Bank approved a US$25 million loan to help improve the production of statistical information for decision-making by public and private agents. The objective is to support the National Institute of Statistics (INE) in its effort to enhance the quality integrity, and access to statistical information. 

The program will have focus on improving the INE’s internal management and infrastructure, the statistical production and strengthening the National Statistics System (SEN).

During the design of the operation, the IDB incorporated experiences from other statistical institutes along with the latest methodological and technical advances in the fields of statistics and census operations.

The main goal of the program is to strengthening both institutions by becoming more efficient in planning, formulation, and evaluation of public policy and allocation of resources. In addition it will finance a series of activities related to the 2010 Population and Housing Census.

The total cost of the program is estimated in US$50 million, including the country’s counterpart contributions from the INE. The loan disbursement period for program resources has been estimated at 60 months from the effective date of the loan contract.
